Recently, I heard a different take on the lyrics to the song “What the World Needs Now” recorded by Jackie DeShannon in 1965.
Yesterday, I posted about our cruise on the Love Boat which is Princess Cruises Regal Princess.
You may have read about how lovely and approachable the entire staff was. The hospitality reached beyond the servers, housekeeping, and spa.
The entertainers were kind and willing to connect, including guest artists like the fabulous C & W band @RhinestoneCowgirlsLive and talented guitarist and vocalist @Antonio Larosa.
We really enjoyed comedian @Dave Konig. He was recently seen on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Dave is funny, relatable, and seems like he actually enjoys the audience members.
Something Dave said has stuck with me for the past few days. He asked couples in the audience about the secret to long-term relationships.
Most said love, friendship, connecting, and an abundant use of “Yes, Ma’m.” However, Dave offered that it wasn’t the ability to comunicate or relate but finding someone you are willing to tolerate for life.
Negotiating in business and life connects you with people who disagree strongly with your stated position, your beliefs, and even your personality. In dealing with those, concentrate on listening for common interests and discovering what they are seeking.
❓With the holidays quickly approaching, what is your strategy to tolerate all the different personalities?
❓What is your plan to steer a discussion in a different direction or gracefully remove yourself from an unproductive conversation?
❓How can you remember the good qualities of another or past kindness when you don’t like the current comments?
Tolerating doesn’t mean permitting an injustice or abuse to occur. Instead, it allows you to be agreeable, even when you disagree on issues.
Focus on ways to tolerate others. The strategy could help you close the deal and stay sane.
According to Dave, you also may save your marriage.
Smooth sailing and Happy Thanksgiving, my friends. Go Negotiate!
